Stop 7

By the entrance to Building 1, you will notice a petrified log. This specimen, which was collected in Nevada, preserves the features of a tree from theMiocene Epoch of geologic time (from about 24 to 5 million years ago). The natural wood has been fossilized through replacement with silica (quartz).
